Complaining against Opposition BJP’s behavior in the recently concluded Vidhan Sabha session, the State Cabinet Ministers and State Congress President Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today submitted a Memorandum to the Governor Urmila Singh at Raj Bhawan.
It has been said in the Memorandum that the BJP was trying to destabilize the State Government but their dreams would never be fulfilled as the present Government was united and stable under the leadership of Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh. The people of the State have given mandate in favour of the Congress Government for full five years term and the Government will complete its term. They termed the behaviour of BJP irresponsible and accused them for degrading the dignity of the House by adopting undemocratic approach.
Congress leaders said that it seemed State BJP neither had faith in democracy nor the party is concerned about dignity of the House. The BJP leaders have been interrupting the House proceedings for the last three consecutive sessions which reflects their irresponsible behaviour. The BJP leaders hampered the House proceedings during six meetings of winter session in Dharamshala, 14 meetings during budget session and five meetings during monsoon session which shows that BJP leaders are not concerned about the development of the State and their only motive is to malign the image of Congress Government through malicious and unsubstantial propaganda.
The memorandum says that the State Government had arranged 16 meetings for this monsoon session so that discussions could be held on development and welfare of the people but by making unwanted hue and cry during this session they have proved that they are not concerned with development and welfare of the common people.
The Speaker of Vidhan Sabha tried his best to settle the impasse by convening a meeting of ruling and opposition parties in his Chamber but BJP leaders were adamant on their demand. On the 5th day of the Assembly the BJP members again resorted to irresponsible behaviour by not asking questions to the Chief Minister. This is against the high traditions and dignity of the House which should be condemned as it was for the first time in the history of the State that opposition did not allow the proceedings of the House even for a single day, Congress leaders stated.
The memorandum says that opposition party has a vital role in the democratic set up but BJP leaders failed to play their role as responsible opposition and interrupted the proceedings for political mileage. During the budget session, BJP members staged walkouts four times and did not attend the House for ten days. The Congress Party is prepared for discussion on any issue of public interest but BJP leaders do not believe in any constructive discussions.
The BJP is trying to mislead the people of the State through baseless accusations but they will never succeed in their ill designs as the people of State are well aware of their tactics. It seems that to target and issue baseless statements against Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh were the only sole agenda of BJP, Congress said.
Through memorandum, ruling party leaders said that in a democratic set up the people elect their representatives with a hope that they will raise their issues on priority in Vidhan Sabha and also give momentum to development works in their home segments. However, it’s unfortunate that the BJP members have failed to work upto the expectations of the people and also as responsible opposition party for which they should seek apology from the people of the State.
