CPM leader and Shimla Municipal Corporation Deputy Mayor Tikender Singh Panwar said that the negative propaganda over the recent floods in Himachal Pradesh has affected the tourism industry and over 50 percent bookings have been cancelled.
In a letter to Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, Panwar apprised that the after devastated flash flood in Kinnaur has adversely impacted tourism sector of entire state as aftermath more than 50 percent of the bookings of the tourists in the state, particularly in Shimla have been cancelled. He said that negative propaganda that has been carried out in the country about the safety of the tourists in the hilly region, which dissuades them from visiting our state.
Panwar said since tourism is one of the major sources of income for the people of the state, the blow to the industry due the scare created by the floods in Kinnaur district has severely affected the livelihood of lakhs of people. He suggested having a proper focus and concentration at this sector and emphasized on the need to ensure sustainable tourism in the state. He said that both short term and long term measures are required for it.
CPM leader advised reframing of tourism policy to ensure the growth of sustainable tourism in the hill state. He suggested utilizing the funds of tourism department, meant for advertisement and propaganda, to create an environment in the country that the state of Himachal is safe throughout the year and the government takes every care for its guests. He also suggested hiring brand ambassador for promoting tourism in the state.
