To preserve the dying art of miniature paintings in Himachal and make the younger generation aware of the art form, Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) is starting a two-year post-graduate degree in Kangra miniature paintings from next academic session. HPU is collaborating with the Integrated Institute of Himalayan Studies (IIHS)
Earlier, IIHS had initiated a diploma course in Pahari miniature paintings in 2010 and the initial response for learning the art from had been quite good. IIHS and HPU had sent a proposal to the University Grants Commission (UGC) to provide funds for the course and it was accepted, after which the idea of post-graduate degree in miniature paintings was floated and the course was approved by the academic council in a meeting held in early April this year.
