The fourth Ultra Half Marathon of 28 and a half kilometers and a separate six kilometers Run for the ages between 10 to 70 years would begin from the historic Ridge Maidan, Shimla on 30th September,2012. The marathon would be co-organized by the State Department of Youth Services and Sports and Delhi based Running and Living Infotainment, a venture focused on promoting running.
This was disclosed in a meeting presided over by Principal Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, V.C. Pharka here today. Pharka said that organizing such an event would attract the running enthusiasts from overseas and different parts of the country, who would have an opportunity to visit Himachal Pradesh. This would also add to promote tourism. He said that more than 500 Shimla residents were also expected to participate in the six kilometers run event.
He said that the running talent of the people of the State would also come to the fore and such sports were strong builder of character and a healthy society. Pharka assured all possible assistance to the organizers.
Rahul Verghese, CEO of the Running and Living Infotainment, added that apart from the Shimla Marathon, they had planned to organize the ‘First Himalayan Running and Living Marathon’ in the State from 28th June this year. He said that this event would have three separate legs. The first leg would comprise of a rally, cycling, running and river rafting from Manali around 20th June, which would enter Spiti to finally culminate at Sangla in district Kinnaur.
The second leg would be an acclimatization run of five and ten kilometers on 26th June,2012 which would start from HPTDC hotel, Kalpa to Rogi village followed by the last leg which would begin from Batseri village in Sangla Valley to Rakcham, Chitkul and Back Batseri.
