Acting swiftly on the complaints about the distribution, rates and scales of Public Distribution System, Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Minister Ramesh Dhawala has directed all the District Food Controllers to ensure the display of information related to Pubic Distribution System on a notice board outside every Fair Price Shop. He said that most of the consumers are not aware of the targeted Pubic Distribution System and supply, distribution and prices of essential commodities under subsidized schemes. He stressed on the need of educating consumers about their rights and said that the Department is taking steps to make the whole process of Pubic Distribution System transparent.
Dhawala added that it is mandatory for all fair price shops to issue a cash memo to consumers on every purchase. He said that incase any depot holder charges more price than indicated or doesn’t issue a cash memo, he/she will be punished under the law.
Minister urges the consumers to take monthly quota of ration and to ensure the quality of commodities. He said that items of low quality should be exchanged at the time of purchase. In case of any grievances, consumer can call minister at the helpline number of the Department 0177-2623746.
