Scrub typhus

Diseases of various kinds keep striking people in the State. One such fatal disease is Scrub typhus, rickettsial disease caused by the bite of an infected larval mite – symptoms include fever, headache, muscle pain, cough and gastroenteritis. According to Health Minister Rajeev Bindal’s information in the State Assembly, scrub typhus has caused 44 reported deaths in the State. According to the information provided in the Assembly, ‘1206 scrub typhus cases were reported in the state in the last two years, from which 17 deaths were reported in 2009 and another 27 in the last year.
