India’s largest 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station of SJVN Limited has established an all time record of power generation during July, 2014 by producing 1191.217 million units of electricity against the MoU target of 1083 million units.
During July, 2014 the power station operated at over 1600 MW during all the 31 days of the month against the installed capacity of 1500 MW. The earlier highest record was 1186.5 million units achieved during July, 2012. The power station thus operated beyond the optimum installed capacity during all the days of July, 2014. During the month, the highest generation achieved was on 8th July at 38.941 MU against the installed capacity of 36 MU.
The Plant Availability Factor (PAF) achieved during the month was 108.3 percent. R.P. Singh, CMD and all Directors of the Company complimented the entire team at the power station and attribute the achievement to optimum machine and water management during July when the silt remains high in the river Satluj.
During the four (4) month period i.e. April 1, 2014 to July 31, 2014, the power station has already generated 3352 million units of electricity. In terms of the MoU for the year the power station is targeted to generate 6900 million units during the financial year 2014-15. It is worth highlighting that during the financial 2013 – 14 the power station had generated 7193 million units of electricity against the design energy of 6612 million units.
The generation achieved last year was the second highest record established by the power station, while the highest generation achieved was 7610 MU in 2011-12.
The Power station has already completed 10 years of commercial operation in May, 2014 after commencing full commercial generation in May, 2004. The power station is supplying power to the nine northern grid states namely Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Chandigarh & Delhi.
