Shimla: After failing to wrest Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) from Anurag Thakur, even after canceling the lease of land to the HPCA and forcible midnight eviction of the state cricket body from its all properties across state, which High Court called politically motivated, state government now bringing in legislation to regulate sports functioning in the state.
It’s learned that in a cabinet meet, schedule on Wednesday, government can approve a draft of the proposed legislation (Himachal Pradesh Sports (Registration and Regulation of Association) Act) that would ensure transparency and regulate the functioning of all sports bodies, including the HPCA in the state.
It’s believed that if the proposed sports registration and regulation draft gets the cabinet nod, it’ll be sent to Governor Urmila Singh for her consent and to make it a law state government can introduce it in the assembly.
This is not a first time when Virbhadra Singh had tried to regulate sports bodies under Sports Law as earlier in 2006 as well, the then government had also enacted the Sports Bill, but before completing all necessary requirements, Congress lost power to BJP in 2007 and Prem Kumar Dhumal-led BJP Govt repealed this act.
