Himachal Pradesh cabinet has decided to get environmental clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Government of India (GoI) for establishing two campuses of a central university in the state.
The cabinet in a meeting presided by Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, decided to move its case for clearance from the Forest Conservation Act to the ministry of environment and forests for the establishment of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh as per the recommendation of the site selection committee.
The Site Selection Committee has already recommended developing campuses at Dharamshala and Dehra, both in Kangra district, in a phased manner. About 160 hectares of land at Dharamshala has been recommended for immediate development of the main campus of the University while 80 hectares at Dehra may be taken up in second phase.
