Shimla: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Shimla Police have seized 288 grams of ‘Chitta’ (heroin) from a suspected smuggler at the ISBT Tutikandi, marking the largest recovery of the contraband in the district this year.
The accused has been identified as Shamshad Ahmed (42), a resident of Ambala district in Haryana. According to police, a Special Cell team engaged in narcotics prevention was on routine patrol in the ISBT area when they received specific information about a man carrying a large quantity of Chitta in a carry bag. The input suggested that the suspect was present on the first floor of the bus terminal and was attempting to sell the drug to local youths.
Acting on the tip-off, the police team moved to the spot and intercepted a suspect. During questioning, he was identified as Shamshad Ahmed. The police searched his carry bag and recovered 288 grams of chitta.
A case has been registered against the accused under sections of the NDPS Act at Boileauganj Police Station. Confirming the development, SSP Shimla Gaurav Singh said that all aspects of the case are being thoroughly investigated.
The police are now probing the supply chain and possible links to a wider drug network operating between Himachal Pradesh and neighbouring states. Officials suspect that the consignment was meant for distribution among local consumers, raising concerns about the growing drug menace in the region.
