Himachal Pradesh Technical University celebrated its first Convocation at Hamirpur, today. Governor Acharya Devvrat presided over the Convocation function. Industry and Technical Education Minister Bikram Singh was present as the chief guest on the occasion.
The Governor awarded 66 gold medals, 50 silver medals and 125 degrees to the students.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that the person, who lives a life of student and learn throughout his life, becomes a real contributor in the development of the nation. Acharya Devvrat said
“You all will be bestowed with the degrees today and this is not the end but a new beginning to yearn for more wisdom, creativity, knowledge and continuous desire for lifelong learning”
Describing the old tradition of Convocation, he said that it was already mentioned in ‘Upnishad’ that the Convocation was a part of education, where after completion of educational pursuit, the teacher gave some instructions to students for the betterment of the society. The instructions given to the students included that the students should behave honestly and increase the knowledge continuously throughout the life and impart it to others in the society so that everyone could get benefited. He added that it was a right time to think and follow such instructions and rich traditions.
The Governor appealed to all the degree holder students to serve the society and nation with compassion, dedication and love, without any monetary greed and live up to the expectations of the common man.
He called upon the students to see such dreams, which would provide a solution to move forward. He said that your education and knowledge should not be restricted to you but, the society should get benefit from it and the principle of religion was also this, which has a feeling of giving happiness to everyone.
Industry and Technical Education Minister Bikram Singh said that State Government was committed to provide best educational facilities to the students in the state. He said that major educational institutions of every field had been set up in the state so that students of the state have not to move outside to get education.
He expressed his concern that even today some sections of the society were deprived of getting professional education and we should help them. He said that the Chief Minister was also engaged in similar human activities and various schemes were being made to help the last person of the society.
Vice-chancellor Himachal Pradesh Technical University Prof. S.P. Bansal detailed about the achievements and new initiatives taken by the University. He said that near about 40 Engineering, Pharmacy, MBA and MCA colleges were working under the University and about 18 thousand students were being given quality education in these institutions. He said that Absolute Grading System and Odd/Even semester Examination like facilities were being provided to the students in the University.
Vice Chancellor, Agriculture University, Palampur, Prof. Ashok Sarial, Deans Prof. Kulbhushan Chandel and Prof. Vinay Chauhan, Members of Governing Body and Academic Council Richa Verma and other prominent people were also present on the occasion.
