Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh flagged off Road Safety Awareness Rally from the Ridge here today. He said that under the traffic awareness programme, the vehicles would carry road safety message throughout the State and particularly on the Shimla-Kalka-Parwanoo highway. Not only the ralliests would stop at the selected locations but they would also make the people aware about the traffic rules and signals to be followed while driving, he said.
Road Safety Pamphlets will also be distributed to the people under this campaign.
The Chief Minister said that the rally would be an effective mode to make road users aware of precautions to be taken during road journey especially in hilly areas like Himachal Pradesh.
Later, Chief Minister also dedicated four modern fire tenders amounting to Rs. 1.40 crore at Ridge here today. These water tenders are equipped with latest equipments which apart from other fire can handle class ‘B’ i.e. liquid fire where water cannot be used. These tenders would be stationed at Paonta Sahib in district Sirmaur, Banikhet in Chamba district, Fire station Chotta Shimla and at Dharamsala in district Kangra. He said that the total fleet of such tenders in the State had now gone upto 125.
Sanjay Kumar, Director General of Police, Zahur H. Zaidi, Inspector General of Police, Traffic Tourist and Railway, Dinesh Mahlotra, Deputy Commissioner of Shimla, B. S. Chauhan, Chief Fire Officer, other senior officers of Police and Fire Departments were also present on the occasion.
