Shimla: To stop the fleecing and overcharging of tourists and commuters at its parking lots, the Shimla Municipal Corporation (MC) has proposed to initiate computerised system of receipts from March this year.

As per the proposal put before the general house meeting, chaired by Deputy Mayor Tikender Panwar, MC has decided to set up boom barriers fitted with CCTV cameras with the computerised system of receipts to run its parking lots from March.

The barriers will be operated by the Home Guards personnel and MC had already sent a request to the DG, Home Guards, for hiring Home Guards. Every parking lot would need six Home Guards for day and night shifts and would need 36 Home Guards for the six parking lots.

Though certain councillors expressed their reservation over the MC proposal for not going for auction of the parking lots this year, but the majority approved the proposal.
