Chail: Forest Minister Thakur Singh Bharmouri today undertook a surprise visit to Chail Wildlife Sanctuary in Solan district. He visited some parts of the Sanctuary around Chail and interacted with the local staff and discussed the status of de-notified area of the Sanctuary which was proposed to be transferred from Wildlife to territorial.
Chail Wildlife Sanctuary has been recently notified by the Government on 7th June, 2013 and area of 93 sq. kms out of 109 sq. kms has been de-notified under rationalization process and 84 villages have also been excluded. The de-notified areas were proposed to be handed over partly to Divisional Forest Officers Shimla and Solan. But local people have been demanding that the administrative control of the de-notified areas should remain with Chail Wild Life Range under Shimla Wildlife Division.
The Minister said that keeping in view the demands of the local people and surrounding Panchayats and also to facilitate better management of the area, administrative control of the de-notified area shall remain with the Chail Wildlife Range of Shimla Wildlife Division. He further stated that the wildlife staff posted in these areas shall also not be disturbed.
He expressed satisfaction on maintenance of the infrastructure of the Sanctuary. Earlier he had visited Gopalpur Zoo of Kangra district this week where the Zoo staff was found absent and one Range Officer; Two Deputy Rangers have been placed under suspension.
