In the valedictory function of the state-level Kisan Mela and Progressive Farmers Meet-2013, jointly organised by the CSK HP Agriculture University and State Department of Agriculture, Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha Speaker Brij Bihari Lal Butail stressed the need to protect small and marginal farmers of state. He said that the most of the rural population in the state was engaged in farming and thus it’s imperative to put more efforts for their socio-economic development by transferring modern technologies and farm inputs.
Butail lauded the effort of the university and the State Department of Agriculture and said that both were successfully contributing to the development of the farming sector.
Dr SK Sharma, Vice-Chancellor of the host university, said as many as 5,000 farmers from the state took part in the mela. He also detailed various programmes of the government to boost farm production. Dr KK Katoch, Director of Extension Education, said the farmers also participated in the question-answer session to resolve their problems. They also visited the research farm of the university.
The Speaker also honoured some progressive farmers with certificates and mementoes.
