Chief Electoral Officer Narinder Chauhan has directed all the District Electoral Officers of Himachal Pradesh to take proper measures for controlling vehicle and noise pollution during election campaigns. He said that Election Commission of India had already issued directions regarding use of vehicles and loudspeakers during the elections.
He said that the law and order agencies should give appropriate directions to their field staff to abide the norms and may conduct inspections of the vehicles emitting effluents. He asked them to check pollution certificates of the vehicles and take action against such vehicles as per the rules. He said that the District Electoral Officers should convene meetings with the representatives of political parties and ask them to follow the Model Code of Conduct and other norms pertaining to pollution control. He said that those found guilty would be dealt according to law of the land.
