While hearing a petition filed by Lallan Rai against the HPU’s order closing all the boys’ hostels for an indefinite period, Himachal Pradesh High Court asked whether persons, who are not students of the Himachal Pradesh University (HPU), were actually staying in its hostels. Court has also sought to know that if there is any then it had taken action against such persons.
The court has directed the Inspector General of Police, Shimla, to submit a report on the law and order situation on the campus. Expressing concern over the situation, a division bench of Chief Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice D C Chaudhary directed the IGP to probe into the allegation of non-students staying in the hostels. It also directed the vice-chancellor and registrar of the university to file an affidavit within three days stating what action was taken against wardens if non-students were found staying in the hostels.
The court has also directed the petitioner, Shimla IGP, SP and deputy commissioner, HPU registrar, deans and wardens to be present in the court on June 20, the next date of hearing.
