The state election committee of Himachal Pradesh’s ruling BJP has recommended a panel of three names, including party General Secretary J. P. Nadda for the lone Rajya Sabha seat falling vacant on April 2. The other two names were Lochen Tulku (Head of Key monastery in Spiti) and Chander Sen Thakur.
J. P. Nadda, who resigned as Forest Minister following his appointment as BJP general Secretary in April, 2010, is a sitting MLA from Bilaspur Sadar. The Rajya Sabha seat is falling vacant following expiry of term of Congress member Viplov Thakur. Congress has not yet announced any name for vacant Rajya Sabha seat.
