PWD Minister Thakur Gulab Singh urged the people to bring the handicapped children into the mainstream so that they can make their valuable contribution to the Society. He was addressing a function organized in the School of Blind Students at Dhalli near Shimla today.
The Minister said that handicapped persons were part of the Society and they should be treated as equals and added that people should change their mindset and accord them due respect. He lauded the Dhalli blind school for its commendable service which was helping the blind and handicapped children to lead a normal life. He said that Social Justice and Empowerment Department was taking effective steps for the welfare of these children which included an institution providing education to them at Sundernagar and institutions of State Child Welfare Council at Dhalli and Dadhi (Dharamshala).
He said that State Government was imparting free education to blind, deaf and dumb children from standard first to University level besides providing Scholarships. He said that the health department conducts health checkups of children up to twelve years to detect such problems in children at an early age.
