Kullu: Two people who were swept away in water channels were found dead in separate incidents in Kullu district on Sunday. Their bodies were recovered from the Manalsu Nallah in Old Manali and the Parvati River in the Manikaran Valley.
The body recovered from the Manalsu Nallah was identified as that of Mausam Darnal of Nepal. Darnal was working as a tailor in Old Manali.
In the other incident, the body of 25-year-old Devendra Kumar, a resident of Shangna under Manikaran Post Office, was recovered from the Parvati River.
Devendra had been reported missing several days earlier. His mother, Vidya Devi, had lodged a missing person complaint at the Manikaran police station on July 23. His body was subsequently recovered from the Parvati River.
The two incidents have highlighted the risks posed by swollen rivers, nallahs and other water channels during the monsoon season. Administration has urged residents, tourists and visitors to exercise extreme caution near rivers and streams, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall.
Himachal Pradesh has been facing severe weather-related incidents during the ongoing monsoon. The state has so far suffered losses estimated at ₹835 crore, while 66 people have lost their lives during the current monsoon season.
