Waknaghat/Solan: Indian academy of Sciences is conducting a two week refresher course in experimental physics in collaboration with Bahra University from 09th May to 24th May 2017 in Solan based Bahra University.
The course is sponsored by Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore, Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi and National Academy of Sciences, Allahabad.
Dr. SK Bansal, Vice-Chancellor Bahra University thanked the Chief Guest Prof. P.K. Ahluwalia, Retired Professor, HP University, for being instrumental in organizing the Refresher course.
Prof. Ahluwalia stated that the Refresher course would be learning experience for him too, being directed by a learned person like Prof. Sunder. He referred to the course as a community service by the Academy as they made low cost apparatus which were left behind with the Institutes only. He praised the vision of the Vice Chancellor of Bahra University to have taken the initiative in organizing this course.
Professor CS Sunder, JC Bose, Sr. Professor, Homi Bhabha National Institute Materials Science Group IGCAR, Kalpakkam, said the course had initially started in 2001 in Goa at the initiation of R. Sirinivasan.
Professor Sunder added that so far 85 such courses had been conducted across various parts of the country. He mentioned that the course could be divided into three parts. The first part would consist of the lecture given by the eminent resource person, second part would include the experiments performed by the participants and the third and final part would consist of the presentation by the participants.
Dr. Bansal said that Refresher course is for the faculty of Physics and the post graduate / Ph.D. research scholar of Physics. There will be in all a maximum of 34 participants, out of which nearly 10 to 12 participants from different parts of India are confirmed to attend the Refresher course and the rest are from the northern region of India.
