Aspiring engineering candidates throughout the country take part in the exam exercise that is the JEE. Securing a good rank in JEE can get you admission in desirable engineering colleges and institutes throughout the country. JEE, or the Joint Entrance Exam administrated by the CBSE, is the premier exam in India for securing an admission to various engineering courses.
The examination is held in two parts. The JEE-Main will allow students’ admissions to the IIITs, National Institutes of Technology, CFTIs, and several other colleges and universities. Top ranking students from JEE-Main will be allowed to take the JEE-Advanced exam, which allows admission to premier institutes like Indian Institutes of Technology, Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), and the Indian School of Mines (ISM), Dhanbad.
Eligibility
Eligible candidates must be born on or after 1 October, 1990. SC/ST/Persons with Disability have been allowed a relaxation of five years in the age limit, and should not be born before 1 October, 1985. Additionally, candidates who completed their 12th/Qualifying examination in 2012 or before, or those who will appear in 12th/Qualifying examination in 2016 or after, are not eligible for JEE. Students should have at least five subjects in the 12th/Qualifying examination to be eligible. Marks obtained in these five subjects should be at least 45% (40% for reserved categories). Some states and universities also have their own eligibility criteria, not essentially following the general criteria listed here.
Dates
Registration for the examination is currently open, and the last date for online registration is 18 December 2014.
JEE Main will be held on 4 April, 2015 (pen and paper), and on 10-11 April for online exam. The exam will be divided into two parts. Paper-1 for B.E./B.Tech admission, and Paper-2 for admission to B.Arch and B.Planning (pen and paper only). JEE-Advanced will be held on 24 May, 2015.
