Chief Electoral Officer Narinder Chauhan said that the Election Commission of India has issued directions for constituting Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Teams for Monitoring Election Expenditure during Mandi Parliamentary constituency bypoll. He said that three or four flying squads would be deployed in every constituency from the date of notification of election till the polling process was over. The teams could be deployed as per requirement in the sensitive areas and the areas which were expected to expend more during elections. He said that the teams would be specifically for the purpose for which they were constituted.
Besides, these squads will keep strict vigil on anti social elements and those involved in giving or taking graft. He said that if any inexplicable amount of more than Rs. 50,000, posters or any election material amounting to Rs. 10,000 or more were found in the custody of candidates or his supporter or worker during checking vehicles carrying them, the same would be confiscated and videography of the process would also be carried out.
He said that the candidates contesting Lok Sabha Polls could spend maximum amount of Rs. 40 lakhs, as election expenditure.
