‘Shimla Celebrates -150 Years of Summer Capital’ would be organized at hill queen Shimla, the Summer Capital of British Rule for the whole year. National level Theatre Festival, Mythological Ballets, Film Festival and display of army bands will be main attractions of the celebrations. This was disclosed by Umpa Chaudhary, Principal Secretary, Language, Art and Culture here today.

Umpa Chaudhary told that from 14th April, 2014 to 20th April, 2014 National-level Theatre Festival will be organized on the occasion of birth anniversary of famous theatre personality late Manohar Singh. She told that during the festival, plays by Neelam Mansingh, Rattan Thiem, Naseeruddin Shah,Waman Kendre and plays by National School of Drama would be presented.

In the month of March, State level Theatre Festival will be organized from 21st to 27th March to commemorate the World Theatre Day on 27th March. Selected theatre groups from Himachal Pradesh will present their plays.

Department of Language, Art and Culture in collaboration with Department of Tourism and Ram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, Delhi will present Mythological Ballets Karan, Durga and Meera on 23rd, 24th and 25th May, 2014 respectively.

Film Festival in collaboration with Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India will be organized in the month of June from 18th to 25th June, 2014.

Principal Secretary, Language, Art and Culture told that programme based on National Integration will be the highlight on Independence Day i.e. 15th August, 2014. North Zone Cultural Centre and other departments of the State Government would associate to present the bouquets of National Integration carrying symposium, Rashtriya Bhakti Kavi Sammelan/Hasya Kavi Sammelan. Again on 30th and 31st August, 2014 Mythological Ballet ‘Krishna’ would be presented by Shri Ram Bharatiya Kala Kendra, Delhi, she added.

Shimla Music Festival would be held from 21st September to 4th October, 2014 by Language, Art and Culture Department in collaboration with Department of Tourism and Punjabi Academy.

Christmas and New Year festivities would entertain the residents of Shimla and tourists from 25th December, 2014 to 1st January, 2015. Folk Dance Music would be the main attraction of the programme.

In the month of May, August, November and December, 2014, Army Band will present various programmes to commemorate the ‘Shimla Celebrates’.

Representatives of Tourism Department, Municipal Corporation, Shimla and Indira Gandhi Medical College, Shimla were present at the meeting.
