President Pranab Mukherjee has appointed former CBI director and Director General of Police in Himachal Pradesh Ashwani Kumar as Governor of Nagaland.
62-year-old Ashwani Kumar was 1973 batch IPS officer and hails from Sirmaur district of the Himachal Pradesh. He was appointed as the Director of CBI in 2008 and led the premier investigating agency till November 2010.
Ashwani Kumar is the first head of the premier investigating agency to be appointed as Governor.
Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh has congratulated Ashwani Kumar and said that it was an honour for Himachal Pradesh. Singh added that Ashwani Kumar, while serving as Director General of Police in Himachal Pradesh and Director CBI, had always remained an upright, honest and sincere towards his duties. He hoped that the tenure of Ashwani Kumar as Governor of Nagaland would prove fruitful.
