A delegation of Lahaul Potato Producers Cooperative and Processing Samiti Manali, district Kullu led by Ravi Thakur, MLA from Lahaul and Spiti called on Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh here last evening. Chhetan Phunchog, President Lahaul Potato Producers Cooperative and Processing Samiti Manali was also present on the occasion.
Delegation urged for financial assistance under Market Intervention Scheme for the potatoes left unsold during the marketing season during 2011-2012. They informed the Chief Minister that 120141 bags of potatoes were received by the Samiti from its members for marketing under which 98634 bags of ‘A’ grade and 16238 bags of ‘B’ grade product were left for marketing. They informed that Samiti had tried its best to sell these bags but inspite of all efforts 21667 bags are still pending for marketing.
Delegation urged the Chief Minister that special financial package should be provided to tribal agriculturists for improving their economic condition.
