The congress today appointed senior leader Virbhadra Singh as new PCC president and ended week long suspense in the poll bound Himachal Pradesh politics.
Congress Party state in-charge Birender Singh Chaudhary confirmed his appointment and said that the high command felt the change would give some gains to the party in the poll. His appointment will be come into effect from the evening later.
It is learned Congress is mulling to appoint the incumbent party Chief Kaul Singh, who was forced to resign, as a leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) after the monsoon session, but didn’t given final decision on it. Thakur was given party charge ever since the party had lost power in 2007. After that Thakur was trying to project himself as a chief Minister contender in the state and that has annoyed of his mentor Virbhadra Singh.
It is speculating that the new CLP leader, if decided to change, will be elected after the monsoon session as there are few formalities, including its information to be given to the Speaker of the assembly. It is also learned that if Kaul Singh was appointed as CLP leader then Stokes will get some proper place matching her status. Vidya Stokes, also a Chief Minister Post claimant, was earlier offered a post of Governor twice, but she had turned down.
After the fresh development it seems that Party high-command has successfully ended the week long turmoil in the state unit and now it’s hoping that Congress will put united face in the coming assembly election.
