Himachal bad roads are nightmare for everyone and in the last couple of years it has gone bad to worse. Theog-Kotkhai-Hathkoti-Rohru road is shoddier to travel, but patch from Shimla to Theog road is denting tourists’ activities and hampering the pace of development in upper Shimla region.
When hundreds of complain failed to get Govt attention on it, locals approached Himachal High Court for their rights. In a petition filed by Divender Chauhan regarding the slow progress in the construction of roads and bridges in the state, Hon’ble High Court has sought a report from the state government regarding efforts made by it for arranging funds for the maintenance of these roads from the Central Government.
The Division Bench comprising Chief Justice Kurian Joseph and Justice Dharam Chand Chaudhary passed this order and also directed the government to submit its report on the construction work of the Theog, Kotkhai, Jubbal to Rohru highway.
Divender Chauhan in his petition has alleged that the road construction work is going on very slowly. But the construction company had assured the court that works on 31-km road would be completed by May 31, 2012. Dilapidated roads have caused crores’ of loss to the apple growers as they had failed to reach Apple boxes to market in time. These roads are also dangerous to travels as in the last three years more then hundred vehicles had rolled down from the road, many people has lost their life.
