Himachal Sewa Sadan at Chandigarh will be dedicated to the common people from 5th November and Government is hopeful that it will ensure the better and affordable boarding and lodging facilities to the attendants and patients from Himachal Pradesh visiting PGI Chandigarh. Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal will dedicate the newly constructed ‘Himachal Sewa Sadan’ at Chandigarh on 5th November.
A large number of patients from all over the State visit PGI, Chandigarh for their treatment. The attendants and patients have to stay in private hotels, thus forced to bear extra expenses on account of boarding and lodging. Although Himachal Serai Bhawan was constructed in Sector-24 D in 1980 with 52 bed capacity, but with the ever increasing number of patients visiting PGI, the accommodation in this Sarai Bhawan has become inadequate. Keeping in view the demand of general public, the State Government took a decision to construct a new building at Chandigarh for providing boarding and lodging facility to the patients and attendants from Himachal Pradesh at an affordable rates. It was on the initiative of the State Government that 2720 square yard land was provided by the Union Territory Administration on free hold basis at the rate of Rs. 7920 per square yard in Sector 25 West, Chandigarh.
Construction work Sewa Sadan was expedited and the new building was completed in a record time by spending an amount of Rs. 10.50cr. The Sewa Sadan has 23 Double Bed Rooms with a bed capacity of 46 beds. In addition to this, it also house 15 dormitories with six beds each, with a total bed capacity of 90 beds and three bedded dormitories with bed capacity of nine. Thus, the total bed capacity in Himachal Sewa Sadan is 145. Apart for this, one transit room with six beds, shift room with two beds, kitchen, lift care-taker residence, driver room and chowkidar room have also been provided.
Whole building is centrally air-conditioned with facility of Canteen that would provide meals at nominal rates. The building has been equipped with modern facilities and would be available on nominal rent-rate to the patients and their attendants. The four storied building have facilities of parking of vehicles in the basement and in the courtyard. A ramp and two lifts have been installed to facilitate the patients.
The State Government has constituted a Himachal Sewa Sadan Society (HIMSES) for managing the Sewa Sadan. The Society has been registered under the H.P Societies Registration Act, 2008. The room with AC and attached toilet would be provided at Rs 500 per day and single bed in dormitory would be provided at a rate of Rs 100 per day. The new building would cater to the lodging needs of the patients and their attendants referred from the Health Institutions of Himachal Pradesh to the P.G.I. Chandigarh.
