In 2012 Himachal Assembly Election scheduled for Nov 4, a total of 460 candidates will fight election on 68 assembly seats.
On the last day of withdrawal of nominations, about 51 candidates withdrew from the race. However, rebels in both state’s main political parties – the ruling BJP and the Congress – are still in fray on many seats and giving tough time for their official candidates.
Some rebels troubling the BJP are sitting legislator Roop Singh from Sundernagar, former legislator Chet Ram Negi from Kinnaur, suspended Kangra MP Rajan Sushant’s wife Sudha Sushant from Fatehpur, Pawan Kajal from Kangra, H.N. Kashyap in Solan, Bhupinder Chauhan from Bhatiyat and Brij Lal from Rampur.
The Congress is facing rebellion from Dhramvir Dhami from Manali, Karnesh Jang from Paonta Sahib, A.C. Paul from Arki, Prem Lata from Kullu, sitting legislator Yog Raj from Dehra, former legislator Ishwar Dass from Ani, O.P. Rattan from Una and Mast Ram from Karsog.
The Sharad Pawar led Nationalist Congress Party is contesting on 12 seats and the Mamta Banarjee’s Trinamool Congress has fielded 28 candidates. CPI contesting on 15 seats, whereas its’ another partner of Himachal Lokhit Morcha, HLP has fielded 37 candidates in poll. Most of these candidates are rebel of Congress and BJP and likely giving tough time to both in the poll. As many as 45.9 lakh voters will decide the fate of these 460 contenders on November 4 at 7,253 polling stations across the state.
