Shimla: Chandigarh-based Amar Pure Gold has signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the Himachal Pradesh Government to invest ₹85 crore in setting up potato and spice processing facilities in the State. The projects are aimed at strengthening the agri-value chain, reducing post-harvest losses and improving farmers’ access to markets.

The MoUs were signed in Shimla between representatives of the Department of Agriculture, HP Agriculture Marketing Board and HP CDPP-II (JICA-ODA) with APG Foods Division and ARFM Foods. HP CDPP-II has been designated as the implementing agency for the project by the Department of Agriculture.

Dr. C. Paulrasu, Secretary (Agriculture), said the agreements are part of the State Government’s broader initiative to develop a Potato and Spice Processing Food Park in Himachal Pradesh. He said the focus is on promoting value addition in agriculture and creating better marketing avenues for farmers.

Under the proposal, a spice processing facility will be established in Hamirpur district, along with primary processing facilities in Sirmaur district. An exclusive potato processing facility will be developed at two locations in Una district — Dhandri Amb and Pekhubela Farm.

The potato processing unit will have the capacity to process 10 to 20 metric tons of raw potatoes per day, enabling the production of 2.5 to 5 metric tons of value-added products such as potato flakes and powder daily. The facility will be designed to operate flexibly according to market demand and export requirements.

Out of the total ₹85 crore investment, ₹65 crore will be allocated for the potato processing facility and ₹20 crore for the spice processing unit. The company plans to complete construction and make the units operational before 2027. Amar Pure Gold clarified that this investment is separate from its previously announced ₹250 crore expansion in Himachal and represents an independent strategic commitment.

The proposed facilities will be equipped with modern food processing machinery and automated systems to ensure regulatory compliance, product traceability and adherence to international quality standards. The company said the initiative is expected to generate employment opportunities and support farmers through integrated partnership programmes, contributing to social and economic development in rural areas.

Amar Pure Gold is a leading Indian manufacturer and exporter of premium frozen food products, specialising in authentic Indian sweets, snacks and ready-to-eat items. The company said its expansion in Himachal aligns with its strategy of value-added farmer integration and export-focused growth in domestic and international markets.
