Nagaland governor Ashwani Kumar has resigned from the post. He was appointed as Nagaland governor in March 2013 by the UPA government.
The resignation of Ashwani Kumar, who hails from Himachal Pradesh, came days after Union home secretary Anil Goswami had telephoned some of the governors, appointed by the previous UPA regime, to step down after the Narendra Modi government assumed charge.
Kumar was CBI director when the agency had arrested BJP general secretary Amit Shah in connection with the Sohrabuddin Sheikh alleged fake encounter killing case in Gujarat.
Former CBI director become the third person to resign from the post. Earlier, Uttar Pradesh governor BL Joshi and Chhattisgarh governor Shekhar Dutt have resigned from their post last week.
