The former Governor of Himachal Pradesh, V.S. Ramadevi, died at Bengaluru following massive cardiac arrest. She was 79.
Ramadevi had served as Governor of Himachal Pradesh between July 26, 1997 to December 1, 1999 and thereon, of Karnataka till May 20, 2002. She was also the only woman to head the Election Commission from November 26, 1990 to December 11, 1990.
Governor Urmila Singh and Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh have mourned the sad demise of V. S. Rama Devi.
In a condolence message, Governor said that V. S. Rama Devi rendered valuable services to the country as the Chief Election Commissioner and as Governor of Himachal Pradesh and Karnataka from 1997 to 1999 and 1999 to 2002 respectively. She will always be remembered as a great lawyer and an able administrator, she added. She prayed to the Almighty to give peace to the departed soul and strength to the family members to bear the irreparable loss.
