HRTC Bus driver dies of cardiac arrest, passengers safe

There was a miraculous escape for 35 passengers of an HRTC Manali-Chandigarh Tata AC bus (HP-65-1536) as its driver Pitambar Lal (44) of Sandhyani village in Mandi district suddenly had a massive heart attack and died at the wheel while driving the bus on the national highway near the ITI Chowk, 2 km from here, in the wee hours of today.

Reports said the driver had fallen from the bus on to the road and died instantaneously, but not before saving several lives as he had veered the bus towards the hill side, away from a chasm on the other side. All the passengers, most of whom were fast asleep, were safe and without injuries barring two passengers who had received minor injuries and were released after first aid.
