The state is reeling under cold wave conditions as mercury dipped three to five degrees below normal and the maximum day temperature fell marginally due to icy winds and clouded sky.

In the last 48 hours, the sky remained mainly cloudy, bringing down day temperatures while night temperatures were recorded from sub-zero to 9.9 degree Celsius. The high altitude tribal areas and adjoining valleys reeled under piercing cold wave conditions Keylong in Lahual and Spiti district recorded minimum temperature at minus 1.6 degrees, while Kalpa in Kinnuar and key tourist resort of Manali recorded a low 1.4 degrees and 2.8 degrees Celsius respectively.

Bhuntar, Solan and Sundernagar recorded minimum temperatures at 3.6 degrees, 4.4 degrees and 5.5 degrees Celsius respectively, two to four degrees below normal while Mandi and Shimla recorded a low of 6.7 degrees and 8.8 degrees Celsius.

Natural water sources like lakes and rivulets and some portion of Chandrabhaga River have frozen in high altitude tribal areas.

The maximum day temperature also dropped by two to three degrees with Una hottest in the region with a high of 25.4 degrees, followed by Nahan 22.8 degrees, Dharamsala 22.2 degrees, Solan 21.5 degrees, Bhuntar 19 degrees, Sundernagar 18.6 degrees, Shimla 15.9 degrees and Kalpa 15.2 degrees Celsius.
