Virbhadra Singh and his supporters got a respite from the party high command as he was appointed the chairman of the party’s campaign committee for the coming Assembly poll in the state. It gives the clear indication that he enjoyed full backing and support from the party high command despite framing of charges by a Shimla court against him in more than two decades old case.
Secretary of the AICC Anees Ahmed and chairman of the state media department of the party Mukesh Agnihotri confirmed the development, and committee’s other members will be appointed later. They said the general secretary and in charge of party affairs in Himachal Birender Singh had issued a notification to this effect.
The development has come as a big boost for supporters of Virbhadra after resigning from the Union Cabinet. Virbhadra Singh is coming to Himachal Pradesh on July 1 and his supporters have planned a big welcome for him at Parwanoo, then he will go to Kullu through Solan, Shimla, Bilaspur and Mandi. He will attend Rahul Gandhi’s programme at Kullu on 2nd July.
After the court decision, Virbhadra Singh had declared a war against Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal and with the high command lending him full support; the Congress campaign to oust the BJP from power will take off rather early on a high note. Assembly election is scheduled later this year and Virbhadra Singh, who is only mass leader in the State, can ensure Congress victory in the election.
