Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal has thanked the electors of Shimla Municipal Corporation for their support and vote for BJP nominees in Shimla Municipal Corporation held on 27th May, 2012. He said that the strength of BJP Councillors in Municipal Corporation Shimla in this Election had gone up to 12 from 8 in last Elections. He said that the outcome of Shimla Municipal Corporation election was also rejection of the Congress which had been ruling it since 1986.
Shimla Municipal Corporation had never been trendsetter for Assembly Elections in the State being claimed by some quarters as it did not represent the entire State. In 1997 when BJP had got two seats in Municipal Corporation, the BJP had formed the Government in the State in the year 1998. In the year 2007 also when Congress won, the Municipal Corporation Election, the Government in the State was formed by the BJP in the same year. There was nothing to rejoice for the Congress or anybody else over the Municipal Election results.
Prem Kumar Dhumal said that BJP Government would extend its full cooperation to the Corporation for its development as Shimla was the Capital of Himachal Pradesh and its old glory needed to be restored besides providing civic amenities to the people. He said that during last four years, BJP Government had also given liberal financial assistance to the Corporation for its development.
