To curb air pollution in the city, MC Shimla has proposed to impose green tax on all vehicles coming from the out side. Local vehicles will be exempt from the tax. Such tax is only implemented in Manali where two wheeler has to pay Rs 100 a car Rs 200, a sumo sized vehicle Rs 300, while a bus or truck has to cough up Rs 500 per vehicle. The rate might be the same and the income generated from the green tax will be spent on the improvement of the environment and civic amenities in Shimla.
