With a view to provide assistance to the wheat seed growers who have registered themselves with H.P. State Seed and Organic Produce Certification Agency during Rabi 2011 for seed production of variety PBW-343 and PBW-502, the Cabinet in its meeting, under the Chairmanship of Chief Minister, decided to provide assistance of Rs. 200 per quintal the difference cost between seed and grain as in the current Rabi season. Crop is damaged due to unfavourable weather the wheat crop was infested with yellow rust, which caused damage to the crop. The two varieties of wheat namely PBW-343 and PBW-502 were found more susceptible to yellow rust and damage was more in these varieties. Around 250 growers are registered with H.P State Seed and Organic Produce certification agency.
The total area registered under PBW-343 and PBW-502 in the State is about 676 hectare out of which 555 hectare area is in Una district alone. As per the production estimate about 17,000 quintal seed of these varieties will be produced in the current Rabi season in respect of these two varieties. Assistance of approximately Rs. 40 lacs will be given to these farmers.
