HP State Electronics Development Corporation Limited, Board of Directors’ 80th Meeting led by Chief Minister was held in Shimla. In the meeting it’s stated that State Electronics Development Corporation has targeted a net profit of Rs. 55 to 60 lakh by the closure of current financial year as the annual business turnover has registered significant increase.

Chief Minister said that the State Electronics Development Corporation was rendering valuable services in spreading the information technology literacy in the State and providing quality computer hardwares etc. at reasonable prices to the government and private users. He said that the quantum of turnover of the Corporation had increased from Rs. 3096 lakh in year 2007-08 to Rs. 3428 lakh in the year 2009-10 and would further to touch the figure of Rs. 3726 lakh during current financial year. He said that the Corporation had come out of the red as it had earned profits amounting to Rs. 22.99 lakh in the year 2008-09 and Rs. 20.56 lakh during 2009-10. He said that the Corporation had provided computer hardwares to 320 schools under Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan besides to various departments and 1185 gram panchayats etc. He said that additionally the Corporation had also compiled the JBT results besides examinations conducted by various departments of the state.

Prof. Dhumal said that possibilities would be explored to further diversify the trade and commerce activities of the Corporation by undertaking installation of mobile towers in different places all over the State in consultation with the mobile companies operating in the State. He said that efforts would also be made to set up call centre in the State so that local youth were trained and provided with employment opportunities. He said that IT happened to be a vast sector where rapid growth was being witnessed. He said that the sector also had potential of employment and self employment which could be explored to the optimum. He said that IT had emerged an indispensable part in the life of the people who long to stay connected with the newsworthy happening in any part of the world to keep them abreast of the latest news through the internet. He said that diversified business activities were the need of the hour to bring loss bearing public sector undertakings out of the red. He said that concerted efforts were required to be made to earn maximum profit for the organization. He complimented the Board for registering regular increase in the profit margins which needed to be increased further.

Chief Secretary Rajwant Sandhu underlined the need for adoption of professional approach in the functioning of the organization. She said that the accounting procedure needed to be smoothened so that real financial picture was visible. Whereas, MD Rajender Singh Negi, conducted the proceedings of the Meetings. He detailed the activities of the Corporation by quoting the income generating activities and profit margin earned. He said that the Corporation was earning profit consecutively for the past three years. He said that more activities were being added to earn profit. Director of Industries J.S.Rana, Special Secretary Finance Rajneesh, Chief General Manager BSNL and other members of the Board were present in the meeting.
