Chief Secretary Rajwant Sandhu preside the meeting of State Water and Sanitation Mission and reviewed the progress of implementation of schemes. Officials informed that out of 53205 habitations in the State, 39308 habitations had been covered fully and 16692 partially. Department had set a target of setting up 2500 handpumps for the current financial year out of which 1687 had been set up and remained will be fixed by the end of this fiscal year. Chief Secretary stressed for repair and maintenance of handpumps and water schemes before the summer season sets in, so that people do not face any inconvenience for want of water.

Chief Secretary stressed for the proper water and sanitation facility in every school and asserts that toilets should be constructed in schools on priority with a provision for separate toilets for girls.
