Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said the state government plans to invest between ₹10,000 crore and ₹15,000 crore in the tourism sector over the next five years, with a focus on developing high-end tourism, strengthening infrastructure and improving air connectivity.

The Chief Minister announced while presiding over the closing ceremony of the Koti Golf Cup-2026 at the Naldehra Golf Course in Shimla district. The two-day tournament, held on October 24 and 25, witnessed participation from more than 80 players. Sukhu presented trophies to the winners and felicitated them for their achievements.
Emphasising tourism as a key driver of the state’s economy, Sukhu said the government was working to improve accessibility and develop infrastructure to attract more visitors to Himachal Pradesh.
He said ₹3,000 crore was being spent on land acquisition for the expansion of Kangra airport. The expansion is expected to facilitate the operation of larger aircraft, improve air connectivity and increase tourist arrivals, giving a further boost to tourism-related activities across the state.
The Chief Minister also said the state government was providing ₹35 crore under the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) mechanism to support flight operations in Himachal Pradesh.
Sukhu said the government was working towards connecting all district headquarters through heliport facilities to make travel more convenient for tourists and residents.
Efforts were also underway to introduce connecting flights from Shimla, which would improve air accessibility and make the state more attractive to visitors seeking quicker travel options to its popular destinations.
He said improved connectivity, combined with investment in tourism infrastructure, would help Himachal Pradesh strengthen its position as a destination for high-end tourism.
Highlighting the government’s efforts to promote sustainable tourism, Sukhu said 60 eco-tourism sites had been leased out, generating revenue of ₹22 crore for the state exchequer.
The initiative aims to promote tourism in natural settings while creating economic opportunities. Eco-tourism is also expected to diversify the state’s tourism offerings beyond conventional hill stations and established tourist destinations.
The Chief Minister stressed the importance of developing tourism facilities while leveraging Himachal Pradesh’s natural attractions.
Praising the Naldehra Golf Course, Sukhu described it as one of the most scenic golf destinations in the state. He also acknowledged the contribution of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh towards the development of the golf course.
The Koti Golf Cup-2026 brought together more than 80 players over two days, with the closing ceremony marking the conclusion of the tournament.
