The ambitious project to set up an arts college at the International Roerich Memorial Trust (IRMT), Naggar, may be scrapped as the International Centre for Roerichs (ICR), Moscow and the Himachal Government are not keen to go with the project.
There was a proposal to upgrade the Arts Academy functioning near the IRMT into a full-fledged college on the main campus but the chances of that happening seem bleak as the ICR team has already conveyed its unwillingness to support the move.
The ICR team from Russia has made it clear to the Himachal Government that it will not support the college as it was never meant to be the part of the centre envisioned by Roerich himself. Whereas, Chief Secretary, Sudripta Roy said that since the ICR as well as the state government is not keen to have an arts college, the idea stands dropped and the entire thrust will now be on having a proper museum, research centre and a cultural centre.
