Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh government has released Rs. 83.85 crore to strengthen diagnostic and specialised healthcare facilities across the state, with major investments planned for Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla.
Of the sanctioned amount, Rs. 8 crore has been released for the procurement of a Single Photon Emission Computed Tomography (SPECT) machine and a Cell Separator for Bone Marrow Transplantation at IGMC Shimla.
The SPECT machine will provide advanced three-dimensional imaging to assess the functioning of organs and tissues. It can assist doctors in diagnosing and evaluating diseases related to the heart, brain, bones, lungs and kidneys, besides supporting the assessment of certain cancers and other conditions.
The Cell Separator will strengthen the hospital’s bone marrow transplantation facilities by enabling the collection of peripheral blood stem cells from donors or patients following appropriate stimulation. The collected stem cells can then be processed and prepared for transplantation or stored for subsequent use.
The government has further released Rs. 14 crore for the procurement of six high-end ultrasound machines at IGMC Shimla and the upgradation of CTL Kandaghat. Another Rs. 3.50 crore has been sanctioned for the procurement of two X-ray machines, including analog and digital systems.
A major addition to IGMC’s diagnostic infrastructure will be the 256-slice CT scan machine, for which Rs. 12 crore has been released. The advanced scanner is expected to significantly improve diagnostic capabilities and help streamline investigations and procedures at the premier state healthcare institution.
The new equipment is expected to strengthen diagnostic services at IGMC and improve access to advanced investigations, enabling patients to receive timely diagnostic reports and reducing delays in treatment.
Six ultrasound machines for Tanda
At Dr. RPGMC Tanda in Kangra, the government has released Rs. 6 crore for the procurement of six high-end ultrasound machines. The investment is aimed at enhancing diagnostic services and improving patient care at the medical college.
Meanwhile, Rs. 2 crore has been sanctioned for the construction of a PET Scan building at Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College, Nerchowk, Mandi, paving the way for expansion of advanced diagnostic facilities in central Himachal Pradesh.
The healthcare funding package also covers several other projects across the state. Rs. 17.95 crore has been released for Civil Hospital Jawalamukhi in Kangra district, including provisions for water and power supply.
An amount of Rs. 4.90 crore has been sanctioned for construction of residential accommodation for doctors and staff nurses at Civil Hospital Joginder Nagar.
At Medical College Jolsappar, Hamirpur, Rs. 12 crore has been allocated for parking facilities, while Rs. 3.50 crore has been sanctioned for construction of a police station, along with provisions for the SDAMO office and hospital facilities at Ghumarwin in Bilaspur district.
