BJP veteran and leader of opposition Prem Kumar Dhumal today accused the state government for patronizing mining mafia.

Two time Chief Minister, in his statement, said that Himachal, known as ‘devbhumi’ has been converted into the land of criminals and mafia and any honest officer who dares to take action against the mafia should be ready for transfer.

Dhumal alleged that drug trade was flourishing in the state as numbers of cases of heinous crimes like murder, rape, drug-smuggling etc. has doubled in recent years, tarnishing the image of Himachal as a peaceful and safe state.

Leader of Opposition further said that hands of law enforcing agencies were tied as honest officers, who are initiating action against culprits, were being transferred. Cautioning the state government for controlling the mafia and threaten to raise these issues in the coming Monsoon Session of State Assembly.

Dhumal alleged that law and order had collapsed in the state and instead of reining in the mafia, the government was busy framing the political opponents in false cases.

Reports of illegal mining along Himachal Pradesh border are making headline and even after vigil of police and mining department, cases of illegal mining are reporting regularly. Recently a police officer, who had booked a private truck registered on the name of legislature’s wife, was transferred immediately after the report, giving issue to the opposition to target government. Though, the state government claiming of controlling mining mafia in the state, but mining incidents are depicting another picture of the reality.
