Himachal Pradesh Congress has congratulated Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh and Congress government for introducing Sports Bill in the Vidhan Sabha.
State Congress Chief Spokesperson Naresh Chauhan, in his press communiqué, stated that the Bill would go a long in promoting sports and players in Himachal Pradesh. He said that bringing in new Sports Bill was a major issue among the sportspersons and Sports Associations in the state and Congress party has also promised to introduce the Bill in its election manifesto. He said
“Now over 42 Sports Associations of the state would come under the new Bill and a Sports Council would also be constituted for the welfare of sportspersons in the state,”
Congress Spokesperson said that now it would be mandatory to hold elections of Sports Associations after the expiry of fixed term and only Himachalis would have the right the vote to elect new body. “Further, these elections would be held in independent and not in nominated manner and the office bearers would be elected for a fixed period of time. In addition to this, audit of the sports bodies would also be conducted every year,” he said.
He believe that the Sports Bill would end the monopoly of politicians who are using these sports bodies for their personal gain and now their office bearers would be able to work without any political intervention.
Chauhan added that the players would be able to excel in their respective field as they would be elected for participation in state, national and national level events on the basis of their performance and not on the basis of political consideration.
