Himalayan Forest Research Institute (HFRI) Shimla celebrated the International Day for Biological Diversity (IBD) today. As many as 30 students of Shimla based schools participated in various programmes viz. Quiz Competition, Painting Competition and Slogan Writing on the theme, ‘Islands Biodiversity’.
International Day for Biological Diversity is celebrated every year on 22nd May for creating awareness about biodiversity which helps in conservation of biodiversity and other dwindling natural resources, facing threats.
Dr. K.S. Kapoor, Director, Himalayan Forest Research Institute distributed prizes to the winners of various competitions and exhorted the students to sensitize the people towards conservation of biodiversity, water and other natural resources.
Earlier, Dr. R.K. Verma, Organizer of the Programme welcomed the students and teachers of various schools who participated in the meeting. Dr. Vaneet Jishtu, Scientist, HFRI, Shimla gave a detailed presentation on the importance of Biodiversity in the present day’s context.
