To commemorate the 69th birth anniversary of former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi, Himachal Pradesh Congress Committee organised a blood donation camp throughout state, in which hundreds of party workers donated blood.
Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh inaugurated Blood Donation Camp at Rajiv Bhawan here today. While addressing party workers on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that former Prime Minister late Rajiv Gandhi was a visionary leader under whose dynamic leadership the country made rapid progress in various spheres. He said that Rajiv Gandhi was instrumental in lowering the voting age to 18 years thus giving a right to franchise to the youth of the country. He was a youth icon who gave new direction to the pace of development to the country and introduced information technology as he firmly believed that India could emerge as world power only after progressing in this field.
Virbhadra Singh congratulated National Students Union of India (NSUI) for winning the maximum seats in recent Student Central Association (SCA) elections in the State. He said that this victory was due to efforts of NSUI and expressed hope that the organization would perform even better in future.
State Congress President Sukhvinder Singh Thakur said that late Rajiv Gandhi was the youngest Prime Minister of the Country who channelized the youth energy for the development of the Nation. He said that apart from State Headquarter such blood donation camps were also organized at district and block level in the State.
Urban Development Minister Sudhir Sharma, MLA Anirudh Singh, Chairman HP State Cooperative Bank Harsh Mahajan, Deputy Chairman State Planning Board G.R. Musafir, Vice Chairman HP State Forest Corporation Kewal Singh Pathania, former MLA Nikhil Rajour, office bearers and workers of Congress, Seva Dal, Youth Congress, NSUI were present on the occasion.
Earlier, Chief Minister and other party leaders and ministers paid a tribute to the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi at his statue at Sadbhawna Chowk Chhota Shimla.
Chief Minister was joined by Irrigation & Public Health Minister Vidya Stokes, Agriculture Minister Sujan Singh Pathania, Urban Development Minister Sudhir Sharma, MLA Anirudh Singh, State Congress President Sukhvinder Singh Thakur, Dy. Mayor MC Shimla Tikender Panwar, Chairman HP Cooperative Bank Harsh Mahajan, Vice-Chairman State Planning Board G. R. Musafir, Vice Chairman State Forest Corporation Kewal Singh Pathania, Councilors MC Shimla, Deputy Commissioner Shimla Dinesh Malhotra, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Amarjeet Singh, former Minister Singhi Ram, former MLAs Harshvardhan Chauhan & Nikhil Rajour, and other prominent persons and dignitaries of the town.
