As per the instructions of Election Commission of India, (ECI) the Home department to the Government of Himachal Pradesh has conferred the powers of Executive Magistrate to various officers in the districts for monitoring expenditure, constituting flying squad and State surveillance teams besides appointing sector magistrates for maintaining law and order for smooth conduct of elections in the State.

A spokesman of the State Government said here today that 25 officers in Shimla district had been given such powers besides 13 officers in Solan district, nine in Sirmour district, four in Bilaspur district, 11 officers in Mandi district, eight in Kullu district, three in Lahaul Spiti district, two in district Kinnaur, 15 officers in Kangra district, 10 officers in Chamba district, 29 in district Una and 11 officers in Hamirpur district had been conferred with the powers of Executive Magistrate for conducting elections in smooth and fair manner.

Apart from this, all Tehsildars and Naib Tehsildars have already been given the powers of Executive Magistrate who fulfill the requisite qualifications for the purpose, he said.
