Apple growers of the upper Shimla region have demanded the intervention of Governor Urmila Singh to help secure the arrears of the fruit procured under the MIS (market intervention scheme) and ensure proper arrangements for marketing of the produce during the ensuing harvesting season.

A deputation of growers, led by Rohit Thakur, secretary of the Pradesh Congress Committee, submitted a memorandum to the Governor at the Raj Bhawan. In their memorandum, it was pointed out that the government had still not released over Rs 6 crore to the growers from whom apple was procured under the MIS in 2010 and 2011.
